Play Parks and S106 Funding

There are plenty of funding options available for outdoor public playgrounds and gym facilities at recreational spaces throughout the UK.  Section 106 funding is just one of the playground funding options available for you to explore….

Section 106 Funding…..

Section 106 funding is money that developers of larger sites pay to the council to reduce the impact of the development. Developers sign an S106 agreement as part of their planning permission. This is a legal document that specifies what the money is spent on and where. This works on a “Cost per Square Meter” of the occupied land of the development. The amount charged is generally a fixed amount, but for some developments these can be negotiable. The funding under section 106 is to be used to enhance the local area with community projects such as;

  • Parks & Outdoor Facilities
  • Outdoor Gyms
  • Paths, Benches and Seating Areas
  • Landscaping & Planting
Outdoor Gym Facilities

Getting outdoors & Active…..

There is no limit to the Section 106 funding amount however, it is up to the Local Authority on how they use this funding.  Most local authorities spend the money on improvements to local playgrounds and introducing outdoor gym facilities.

These facilities are designed to improve the physical fitness and overall health conditions of the local community.  They also improve mental health by encouraging people to get outdoors into the fresh air and get active.

Getting people active is a major goal for the Government to help improve the overall health of the population which will, in turn, reduce the demand on the NHS Services.

ESP Play Parks

At ESP Play Parks our approach to Section 106 funding for playgrounds and outdoor spaces is geared towards helping out the local authority in providing the best possible playground and play equipment for the budget available.

Designing Play Areas and Outdoor Gym Facilities in public parks and open spaces that not only enhances the are but engages the local community to come together and enjoy the outdoors.

A great way to enhance outdoor spaces is creating multi-use areas which attract children and parents to come together.  Outdoor Gyms for example improves overall health but also provides something for parents to do while at the park with their children.  This also shows the importance of physical fitness and exercise to children and creates the want to be outdoors.
